Pedro Sánchez demands that the President of Israel respect international law

Caracas.- The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, demanded this Thursday from the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, that his country respects international law in its response to the Hamas attacks and that humanitarian aid can reach Gaza, because if not, there is a risk of deaths in the population.

Sánchez made these requests to Herzog during the meeting he had with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo during his visit to that country.

A visit that is part of the tour that also covers Palestine and Egypt and includes, on the Jerusalem leg, a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a trip to a kibbutz attacked by Hamas on October 7.

In his remarks at the start of the meeting with Herzog, Sánchez stressed that Spain knew that Israel was suffering from the attacks by Hamas, which he condemned, and that it shared its pain, and called for the release of all hostages.

He added that Israel had the right to defend itself but must abide by international law and that the response should not result in the deaths of civilians in Gaza.

“We demand that all civilians be protected and that humanitarian aid reach Gaza immediately.” “There is a risk that people will die immediately,” he warned, recalling the delicate situation in which thousands of children find themselves.

After defending that the Palestinian Authority had taken control of Gaza, he assured that the best solution to the conflict was the coexistence of two states, Israel and Palestine.

“It is the best way to defeat terrorism and ensure security in Israel,” he added, before insisting on his proposal to convene a peace conference in a few months to advance this two-state solution.
