Pedro Castillo denies that he is going to close the Peruvian Congress

The Peruvian president, Pedro Castillo, has denied this Saturday that his government is contemplating the closure of Congress to prevent the Chamber from approving a vacancy motion against him, and has called on the Legislature to work "on the whole" in favor of the country.

"At a difficult time for the country, with a crisis due to the fifth wave of the pandemic, I ratify my commitment to democracy, the rule of law and the Constitution". "I strongly reject that my government is plotting to shut down Congress to avoid a vacancy"has manifested in their social networks.

Likewise, the president has made an appeal to Parliament and the rest of the institutions to maintain "the widest unit" that allows us to work together to solve the "big problems" as they have been designated to do for a period of five years.

Castillo’s publication took place after Defense Minister Daniel Barragán presented his letter of resignation from office, according to the Andina news agency. He has indicated that his resignation responds to personal reasons, but in the country there is talk of a disagreement between the two politicians.
