Preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy
The commencement of the ICC Champions Trophy on 19 February has sparked concerns regarding the readiness of stadiums in Pakistan, the host country. Ongoing construction work at major stadiums like Karachi and Lahore has raised questions about whether the necessary preparations will be completed in time for the tournament.
Assurance from the Pakistan Cricket Board
Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has addressed these concerns, expressing confidence that the construction work will be finished by the scheduled time. He acknowledged that some individuals have suggested relocating the Champions Trophy due to the incomplete stadiums, but emphasized that this will not be necessary.
According to Mohsin Naqvi, the stadiums in Pakistan are prepared to host the Tri-Series and Champions Trophy. He announced that the Prime Minister will officially inaugurate the Lahore Stadium on 7 February, at which point the stadium will be fully ready for use.
Construction Updates and Tournament Plans
Mohsin Naqvi also provided an update on the construction work at the Karachi Stadium and Rawalpindi Stadium, stating that these projects will require additional time to complete and may continue beyond the tournament. The inauguration ceremony for the tournament is set to take place in Lahore on 16 February.
Due to the busy schedules of participating teams, the ICC has been asked to modify its usual procedures, such as refraining from providing normal tickets and passes to the host country. This adjustment is intended to accommodate the unique circumstances of the tournament.
