On Thursday, the race for Benfica’s presidency heated up considerably. Paulo Parreira, a well-known supporter of the club, announced he would run for the top spot. His entry brings the total number of candidates vying for leadership to seven. Members will cast their votes on October 25th.
Parreira, identified by his member number 68,348, shared his intentions through a post on social media. He addressed supporters directly, writing, “Dear members and fans, as promised, I present myself as a candidate for the presidency of the club I consider the greatest.” This statement from a dedicated “Eagle” fan shows his deep commitment.
His candidacy adds another layer to an already busy election season. Parreira now joins a list of hopefuls that includes Rui Costa, João Noronha Lopes, João Diogo Manteigas, Cristóvão Carvalho, LuÃs Filipe Vieira, and Martim Mayer. Each candidate will try to win over the club’s passionate base.
