Paula Badosa Halts Season Due to Chronic Back Injury, Skips Miami Open

The Miami Open was supposed to be Paula Badosa’s comeback moment. Instead, it became another painful setback. The Spanish star, currently ranked 11th in the world, withdrew before even stepping onto the court to face Alexandra Eala. Now, she’s facing an even longer break from the game.

Another Forced Break

Badosa took to social media to explain the situation. “I had to pull out of Miami and the next few tournaments,” she wrote. “It’s tough dealing with this pain, especially when it keeps pulling me back. Now, I need to stop and recover properly.” The former world No. 2 didn’t hide her frustration—this isn’t the first time injuries have derailed her season.

A Lingering Problem

Her back issues started in 2023 with a stress fracture in her L4 and L5 vertebrae. “The joints kept getting inflamed,” she admitted. “Every time I pushed myself, I had to stop.” Despite the pain, she ignored medical advice and kept playing through the clay season. Big mistake.

The Breaking Point

Rome was where it all fell apart. During a match, she hit a crosscourt forehand and felt something snap. “I kept playing, but the pain was unbearable,” she recalled. “I couldn’t even sleep.” An MRI later confirmed the worst: doctors ordered a three-to-four-month break. She refused. Instead, she limped into Roland Garros—and made everything worse.

Now, she’s paying the price. No Miami. No immediate return. Just another long road to recovery.
