Paul George scores 40 in Clippers’ win over Kings

Paul George scored 40 points to help the Los Angeles Clippers hold off the Sacramento Kings and win 111-109 on Saturday.

Sacramento went on an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 109-106 before George missed a 3-pointer and Nicolas Batum grabbed an offensive rebound. Norman Powell made two free throws and De’Aaron Fox made a basket at the buzzer.

The Clippers (2-0) were playing without Kawhi Leonard and new signing John Wall. The two stayed out for surveillance on their knee injuries. They traveled with the team to Sacramento and trained before the game.

Leonard played 21 minutes Thursday, his first game since he tore a ligament in his right knee in a playoff game in June 2021. Wall played his first NBA game in 18 months after sitting out all of last season in Houston. . Both were expected to play Sunday in the Clippers’ first home game this season.

Reggie Jackson had 14 points, while Ivan Zubac added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Fox finished with 36 points and rookie Keegan Murray had 19 in his first NBA game.

For his part, Kevin Huerter hit five triples and finished with 18 points. Domantas Sabonis added 11, eight rebounds and six assists.

Mike Brown has yet to win as the Kings’ head coach.
