Party in Madrid

Everything ready for the great annual festival of runners in Madrid. The 45th edition of the Zurich Rock’n’Roll Running Series Madrid, of which AS is a media partner with a team of runners in the media, will bring together 34,000 participants tomorrow, from 102 countries, divided into the three distances that will start in Gregorio Marañón (08:00 for the 10K and 09:00 for the other two, with Telemadrid starting at 08:40) and will end at Paseo de Recoletos (near Almirante street): marathon (9,000 participants, a thousand more than in 2022), half marathon (17,000, two thousand more than last year) and 10K (8,000).

Athletes who will enjoy and tour the most emblematic places in the capital with twenty animation points and 17 rock bands that will entertain and give rhythm to the event. Fun, illusion, sport, solidarity and sustainability since the Madrid Marathon has become the first race in the world to certify its carbon footprint. “Years ago we set ourselves this challenge and this is the result”, Pedro Rumbao, CEO of the race, stated proudly in the presentation.

Perfect setting, unbeatable atmosphere and participation with Relevant names such as the Kenyans Daniel Kibet, Filex Kiprotich or the Ethiopian Bazy Hayla in the men’s 42.195 meters or the Ethiopian Afera Godfay, the Kenyan Monica Jepkoech or the national recordwoman Marta Galimany in the women’s. And a fancy 10K with Carlos Mayo, Adrián Ben, Marta Pérez, Águeda Marqués or Irene Sánchez-Escribano.

Everything prepared for a very “cool” edition, in the words of Mayor Martínez-Almeida, in which it is highly recommended to go by public transport, especially by metro because 114 bus lines will also see their itineraries modified, since traffic cuts will cover practically the entire city, as well as the thousands of athletes. Few imagined in the first edition of 1978 that 45 years later these 42,195 meters would become a reference and symbol of Madrid with a gigantic international projection and that it leaves a positive economic impact in the city of 42 million euros.
