A terrible explosion shook the city of Paris, the capital of France.
According to international media reports, the blast took place at around 5pm near Place Alphonse Laveran in the Central 5 arrondissement of the capital.
Photos posted on social media show flames and black smoke billowing from a destroyed building on the street. Debris is piled up on the road in front of the destroyed building.

Paris police have urged people to stay away from the area.

French Interior Minister Gérald Durhamin said there was a fire near the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Sorbonne University on Rue Saint-Jacques in the Paris arrondissement.
