New Delhi. Neeraj Chopra, the first Subedar Indian to win a gold medal in athletics at the Olympics, was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service on Tuesday. In the Indian Army Rajputana Four Rifle, Subedar Chopra won the gold medal with a distance of 87.58 meters in his second attempt at the Tokyo Olympics Javelin Throw final in August 2021.
The Indian Army released the list of military personnel who were awarded for their brave and distinguished service on the occasion of Republic Day 2022 on Tuesday.
Chopra, along with 18 other serving and retired Indian Army personnel, were awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal. Chopra received the Arjuna Award in 2018 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020 for his outstanding performance in sports.

Chopra joined the four Rajputana Rifles as Naib Subedar on May 15, 2016. After joining the Army, he was selected to train at the ‘Mission Olympic Wing’ and the Army Sports Institute, Pune.
Mission Olympic Wing is an initiative of the Indian Army under which talented athletes are identified and trained to prepare for various national and international competitions in 11 sports.
