A court in Pando recently handed down a sentence in a peculiar case involving a 26-year-old man. He was convicted for trying to use banknotes stained with security ink at a casino slot machine. It was a clear sign that the money came from an unusual source.
The origin of these distinctively marked bills traces back to August 5. On that day, a group of criminals targeted an ATM in the Carrasco area. They blew up the machine and managed to steal a large sum of money. However, the ATM’s security system did its job. It released special ink, thoroughly staining the banknotes. This made the stolen cash easily identifiable.
Just recently, the man faced justice for attempting to use these very bills in the casino’s slot machines. According to the Ministry of Interior, the man told authorities a story. He claimed he simply found a bag of money on a public road in the Punta de Rieles area. He then decided to try his luck with some of that cash at the local casino.
Ultimately, the court did not accept his explanation. He was found guilty of a crime involving receiving stolen goods. As a result, he must now serve a six-month prison sentence. This time will be spent under a probationary release program.
