Panamanian police seize two tons of drugs

The Panamanian police seized two tons of drugs, presumably cocainein three operations in 48 hours, reported this Friday the National Aeronaval Service (Senan).

The first seizure occurred east of Punta Mala, in the central Pacific province of Los Santos, when police units stopped a speedboat with two people on board and 1,550 kilos of drugs, apparently cocaine, according to Senan.

The second action The police investigation took place in an anchorage in the Caribbean province of Colón, where the agents located 40 drug packages hidden in refrigeration panels in a container from Guayaquil (Ecuador) and bound for Valencia (Spain).

The third operation was also recorded in Punta Mala, when the occupants of a fast boat began throwing bags overboard when they detected the presence of the Senan, which counted 754 packages of illegal substances.

In total, in the three seizures made in the last 48 hours, 2.3 tons of illegal substances have been obtained,” Luis Rodríguez, deputy commissioner in charge of the Senan naval command, said at a press conference.

Rodríguez also pointed out that so far this year the Senan has arrested 108 people for alleged drug trafficking.

We have 47 Colombians, 45 of Panamanian nationality, 10 of Nicaraguan nationality, five Costa Ricans and one Guatemalan” for “being involved in various crimes (related to drug trafficking),” Rodríguez added.

According to Senan, so far in 2023 this police institution seized 32 tons of drugs, to which should be added what was seized by other police forces.

In 2022, Panama seized 138 tons of drugsa figure that pulverized the previous record, established the year before, when it confiscated 128 tons, the vast majority of it cocaine.
