Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan have been served notice by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court. This notice has been issued in connection with the promotion of pan masala companies. The central government’s counsel also moved the Lucknow bench to dismiss the appeal on this contempt petition.
The central government’s counsel also told the Lucknow bench that the Supreme Court is also hearing this case. For this reason, this petition must be rejected. A single bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan allowed this contempt petition. In addition, the date for the next hearing has been set for May 9, 2024.
Bench Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan had earlier directed the central government to take a decision on representing the petitioner. It was argued that action needs to be taken against these actors who have been honored with high awards but they are promoting gutkha companies.
The petitioner in the case said that a report was submitted to the government on October 22 but no action was taken in the matter. During the hearing of the contempt plea, the Supreme Court had then issued a notice to the Cabinet Secretary of the Central Government.
During the hearing on Friday, Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey, speaking on behalf of the central government, said that the Center had issued a show-cause notice to Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan and sought their response. At the same time, the court was also informed that despite terminating his contract, actor Amitabh Bachchan has sent a legal warning to the pan masala company concerned for featuring him in advertisements.
