Pamela Anderson’s makeup-free journey: Personal reasons, liberation, beauty challenge

Pamela Anderson is turning heads by embracing her natural look. She’s inspiring many to follow her lead.

The star of The Last Showgirl stepped out without makeup at Paris Fashion Week in September 2023. This was a deeply personal choice for her. It came after her trusted makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, passed away. Alexis died from breast cancer in 2019.

"She was the best," Anderson told Elle in August 2023. "And since then, I felt like, without Alexis, it was just better for me not to wear makeup."

She looked back on her makeup-free appearance at Paris Fashion Week a year later. "I’m wearing beautiful clothes. I’m wearing Vivienne Westwood. I have a big hat and a beautiful coat," Anderson told The Times in November 2024. "Nobody will notice if I’m not wearing any makeup."

Fans showered Anderson with praise for her natural style that day. This reaction caught her completely off guard. "I didn’t realize it was going to start all this," she reflected. "That so many people would really identify with me. It’s a great message: we are good enough just as we are. I have to remind myself every day."

Since then, Anderson has continued to appear naturally. She’s been seen this way on red carpets. She also maintained the look throughout her press tour for The Naked Gun in July 2025. She was joined by Liam Neeson during the tour.

Why Pamela Anderson Skipped Makeup

Anderson explained her reasons went beyond honoring Alexis Vogel. She said showing her natural face was also a way to challenge Hollywood’s old beauty rules.

"I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin," Anderson shared with TODAY.com in November 2023. "But I’m also in an industry that really focuses on beauty. And I thought, ‘I’m going to challenge beauty.’"

She added, "I think challenging ourselves is what keeps us young and beautiful. And I honestly think that beauty comes from within. You don’t have to play the game."

Anderson further discussed these beauty ideals when visiting eTalk on CTV in July 2025. This was before the premiere of Naked Gun. She talked about how this idea applies to her career.

"I just wanted to stop playing characters in my personal life. I wanted to figure out who I was," she said. "I wanted to see what I really like to do. And I want to keep playing characters in movies. …You can fall into the traps of certain habits that take so much of your time. I started thinking, ‘Why am I doing this?’; ‘What do I need to prove?’ And although I don’t know what my next stage will be, I love glamour. I love makeup. And this is just the moment I’m in now."

Pamela Anderson Feels “Free” Without Makeup

Anderson said going without makeup has been "liberating and fun, and a little rebellious too."

"Because I noticed there were so many people wearing very elaborate makeup," she told Elle in August 2023. "And it’s very typical of me to go against the grain. I do the opposite of what others are doing." She shared her feelings on getting older. "I think we all start to look a little weird when we get older. And I laugh at myself when I look in the mirror. I say to myself, ‘Wow! This really… what’s happening to me?’ It’s a journey."

When discussing her makeup-free look at Paris Fashion Week, Anderson revealed her best beauty secret to i-D in October 2023: "Do nothing."

She explained, "Wake up, whatever is happening, it’s just happening. It’s about self-acceptance. This is the chapter of my life I’m trying to embrace now." She admitted it’s not always easy. "Well, sometimes it’s quite a challenge. You just have to understand that you are good enough and that you are beautiful." She prefers to say "living life" instead of "aging." She believes chasing youth is a waste of time.

Fans Praise Pamela Anderson’s Natural Looks

Anderson’s Instagram page is full of photos showing her without any makeup. Fans continue to cheer her on. They enjoy seeing a fresh side of the former Baywatch star.

"When I was a teenager, I wanted to look like Pamela Anderson when I grew up," one person commented on an Anderson post in June 2025. "Now that I’m middle-aged, I still want to look like her: this iconic and wise version of a woman 👏🏻"

Another fan wrote, "This woman inspires and guides us all on how to age well, be authentic and be untouchable 🔥🙌❤️." A third person added, "Beautiful inside and out ❤️."
