Leila Pereira, Palmeiras’ president, is confident Abel Ferreira won’t be Brazil’s next coach.
The Portuguese manager is under contract with Palmeiras until the end of 2025.
Despite being a top contender for the national team job, he’s staying put, she says.
No Official Word from CBF
Pereira revealed the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) hasn’t reached out to discuss Abel’s potential appointment.
“Ednaldo Rodrigues, the CBF president, hasn’t called me with an offer,” she said, per Globoesporte.
Renewal Talks Underway
Abel’s current deal runs until December, but Palmeiras is already negotiating an extension.
Pereira wants to keep him until 2027. “We’ve started talking; he knows our plans. I’d like to settle this soon,” she added.
Abel’s achievements with Palmeiras include seven titles, including two Brazilian championships and two Copa Libertadores trophies.
Recently, he became the manager with the most wins in the Brasileirão, surpassing Luiz Felipe Scolari.
