Pakistan Suspends Indian Visas, Expels Diplomats Amid Kashmir Attack Row Flares

Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply. Pakistan has suspended all Indian visas issued under a special exemption program.

Escalating Measures

Pakistan has taken several measures against India, including expelling some Indian diplomats.
It has also closed its airspace to Indian flights and reduced the number of Indian embassy staff in Islamabad to 30.
Pakistani defense, navy, and air force personnel are required to return home by the end of April.

Background to the Conflict

The move comes after India accused Pakistan of being behind a deadly attack in the Pahalgam region.
The attack, which killed 26 people, was blamed on the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group.
India’s police said two of the attackers were from Pakistan, and one was from Kashmir.
The group is known for its goal of freeing Kashmir from Indian rule and merging it with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Response

Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack.
It says there was no credible investigation or evidence to support India’s claims.
The country has also warned that if India scraps the Indus Waters Treaty, it will be considered an act of war.

The Indus Waters Treaty

The treaty, which is over 60 years old, governs the sharing of water resources between India and Pakistan.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to track down those responsible for the attack and punish them.
India has also closed the Attari-Wagah border crossing and suspended visa services for Pakistani citizens.
The situation remains tense, with both countries engaging in a war of words.
