Pakistan Slips to Third in ICC Rankings Ahead of Champions Trophy

The wait is almost over for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and just before the tournament kicks off, the latest ICC ODI team rankings have been released, and Pakistan, the host team, has taken a significant hit. Prior to the Champions Trophy, Pakistan was playing a tri-series at home against New Zealand and South Africa, but they lost the final match to the Kiwis by 5 wickets, which ultimately led to a drop in their ODI ranking.

Previously, Pakistan was sitting pretty in second place, right behind India, in the ICC team rankings, but now they’ve slipped down a spot. To put it into perspective, Pakistan has lost a bit of ground after that tough loss to New Zealand in the tri-series final. The question is, how will this affect their chances in the upcoming Champions Trophy?

Australia Reclaims Second Spot, Pakistan Drops to Third

The Pakistani team, which was previously in second place, has dropped to third after losing that crucial final match to New Zealand, and now they have 107 rating points. Meanwhile, the Australian team, despite being swept by Sri Lanka in a 2-match ODI series, has somehow managed to regain their second spot with 110 rating points. As for New Zealand, they’re looking strong after winning all their matches in the tri-series, and they’re now fourth in the ODI rankings with 105 rating points.

Indian Team Remains Unmoved at the Top

The Indian team has been dominating the ODI rankings for quite some time now, and they’re still holding onto that top spot. With 119 rating points, it’s going to be a tough task for any team to dethrone them. Looking at the other teams, Sri Lanka, who had a great series against Australia, is sixth with 99 rating points, while England is seventh, Bangladesh is eighth, and Afghanistan is ninth. It’s going to be interesting to see how these rankings play out in the Champions Trophy. Will Pakistan be able to bounce back from this setback, or will India continue their reign at the top? Only time will tell.
