A five-story building in a crowded Karachi neighborhood crumbled unexpectedly. At least eight people lost their lives. Another nine were hurt. Rescue teams are working fast, digging through the rubble, hoping to find anyone still trapped beneath the debris.
The collapse happened around 10:00 AM local time. It hit the Lyari area, a bustling part of southern Karachi. Arif Aziz, a senior police official, mentioned that about 100 people lived in the now-destroyed building. Local news showed emergency workers struggling to clear the wreckage. They also moved people out of nearby buildings to keep them safe. Getting to the site has been tough because the alleys are very narrow.
Shanker Kamho, a 30-year-old resident, shared his chilling story of survival. He was outside when his wife called, her voice full of panic. She told him cracks were appearing in their building. He immediately told her to grab their children and run. She even tried to warn neighbors, but some were sure the building would stand for years more. Thankfully, his wife got the kids out. Just twenty minutes later, their home collapsed.
Saad Edhi from the Edhi Foundation is helping with the rescue efforts. He believes eight to ten more people might still be buried. Edhi pointed out that the collapsed building was very old and in poor condition. It was a tragedy waiting to happen.

Building collapses are a sad reality in many parts of the world, especially where structures are old and safety rules are not followed. It’s a problem that keeps claiming lives. Officials haven’t yet said what caused this building to fall. The search for survivors continues, as families pray for their loved ones.
