Pakistan Claims Downing Two Indian Fighter Jets, One Drone in Air Strike Response

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated early on Wednesday after Pakistan claimed its military shot down two Indian fighter jets and a drone.

Escalating Conflict

The incident occurred as India launched airstrikes against what it described as terrorist targets in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The Indian government said its military operation, code-named “Sindoor,” targeted nine locations, avoiding Pakistani military facilities to prevent further escalation. Pakistan responded with artillery fire across the Kashmir border, reporting seven deaths, including two children, and 12 injuries in the city of Ahmedpur East.

Background of the Conflict

The Kashmir region has been a longstanding point of contention between India and Pakistan, with both nations claiming sovereignty. Their dispute has led to three wars since gaining independence from Britain. Recent tensions surged after a militant attack on Indian tourists in Kashmir killed 26 people. India blamed Pakistan for the attack, leading to a deterioration in diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two countries. Pakistan denied involvement and retaliated by severing ties.

The situation worsened when Pakistan warned last week that India was preparing to strike within days. US President Donald Trump expressed concern, stating, “I hope it ends quickly.” The international community watches closely as the conflict unfolds.
