Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed Mike Hesson as the new head coach of the white-ball team. Hesson is currently in Pakistan, working with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League. He will join the national team on May 26 after the PSL concludes.
Hesson brings a wealth of coaching experience, having led New Zealand for nearly six years. He then worked with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League from 2019 to 2023. Aqeeb Javed served as interim coach for five months following Gary Kirsten’s sudden resignation.
The Pakistan team is set to face Bangladesh in a five-match T20 series starting May 25. The schedule is as follows:
- First match: May 25 (Iqbal Stadium)
- Second match: May 27 (Iqbal Stadium)
- Third match: May 30 (Gaddafi Stadium)
- Fourth match: June 1 (Gaddafi Stadium)
- Fifth match: June 3 (Gaddafi Stadium)
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said, “I’m thrilled to announce Mike Hesson as our new white-ball head coach. He’s a renowned coach with a proven track record.”
Hesson’s contract details haven’t been disclosed, but it’s expected to be a two-year deal. After the Bangladesh series, Pakistan will tour the West Indies.
