India is reeling from a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. The attack has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for a tough response against the perpetrators.
Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer and BJP leader, condemned the attack, saying India will retaliate. He posted on social media that those responsible will pay for their actions.
The attack occurred on Tuesday evening in Baisaran, a popular tourist spot near Pahalgam known for its picturesque landscapes. The victims included two foreigners, from the UAE and Nepal, and two locals.
Response from Authorities
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the attack as one of the worst against civilians in recent years. Officials are still working to identify the remaining victims. The attack happened as the tourist season was picking up, and just as US Vice President JD Vance was visiting India.
The incident prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cut short his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and return home. Baisaran, located about six kilometers from Pahalgam, is a vast meadow surrounded by dense forests and mountains, attracting tourists from across the globe.
