South Summit -co-organized by IE University, with BBVA, Mutua Madrileña, AstraZeneca, Endesa, Wayra – Telefónica Innovation, Google for Startups and Banco Sabadell’s BStartup as global partners- continued this afternoon with the intervention of prominent speakers such as Paul Island either Al Gore.

For its part, Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete, CEO of Telefónica, has chatted with Maria Benjumea, founder of South Summitabout how technology and rapid advances in innovation are shaping society and the business world. “We are facing the greatest technological revolution in the history of mankind. The metaverse is going to destroy a lot of jobs but it’s also going to help create them. Climate change and the unknowns about how to guide the business world towards carbon neutral emissions, a trend known as Net Zero, has been the central theme of the intervention of Al Gore. The former vice president of the United States has recalled that “We have all the solutions, technologies and policies we need to fight climate change, but we have to start right now. We can’t wait for the next bad news to start acting.” Furthermore, he also highlighted that “Caring for the planet is the greatest challenge of our lives and this generation has the opportunity to face it.”

During the first day of South Summit there was also time and space to rethink the health industry, highlighting the conference of Rick R. Suarez, president of AstraZeneca in Spain, who has spoken about the conjunction of science and technology to improve medical advances. Your big goal? “We want to cure cancer. We believe that through science, technology and innovation we will make it possible; We will change the future of health.”

Another of the main dishes of the day was the talk of Mark Oshima, co-founder of AeroFarms, leaders in sustainable indoor agriculture, who has presented his vision of how AI is reconverting food.
