Pablo Cruz, Juan Lecanda Confirm No Second Season for Chespirito Bioseries.

The buzz around Chespirito: Sin querer queriendo, the biographical series about the legendary Roberto Gómez Bolaños, has been massive. Fans loved seeing the life of the creative genius behind characters like El Chavo and El Chapulín Colorado. However, for those hoping for more, the story is complete. There will not be a second season of the popular show.

The news comes straight from the stars themselves, Pablo Cruz, who plays Chespirito, and Juan Lecanda, who brings Quico to life. During a candid chat with Us Weekly en Español, they shared why this beloved series is a one-and-done deal. They also opened up about the emotional experience of stepping into such iconic roles.

Juan Lecanda, who plays Marcos Barragán (the real-life Carlos Villagrán, known as Quico), explained the decision was made from the start. "It was planned as a limited series from the beginning," he stated. "The story is finished. We ended exactly where we wanted to." He added that while more anecdotes exist, the show aimed for "a heartfelt, contained tribute, without stretching it just to stretch it."

Pablo Cruz, 41, who embodies Gómez Bolaños, agreed that the ending feels just right. "I’m so happy with what we told. I don’t feel like anything is missing," Cruz shared. "It feels more valuable to leave it this way, with that last episode full of emotional truth." He admitted that saying goodbye to the character was also a personal closing chapter. "It was tough, but beautiful," he reflected.

Of course, the internet loves a good rumor, and speculation about a Chespirito movie or a Warner Bros. series linked to Lecanda had been circulating. Us Weekly en Español asked him directly about these claims. "No, false," the actor said clearly. He pointed out that "there are people online who will write anything just to get likes and views." Lecanda insisted, "I have never said anything about it at any time." Pablo Cruz lightened the mood with a joke, "Well, at that party where you were a bit out of line," to which Lecanda playfully replied, "Okay, at that party, yes."

Lecanda then got serious again. "No, truly, joking aside, the more sensational the news, the more it sells," he noted. "And well, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like to keep exploring this story through my work in the future. But that doesn’t depend on me."

Beyond the story’s conclusion, filming the series was an emotional journey for the cast. Juan Lecanda mentioned that shooting the scenes showing the distance between Chespirito and Quico was particularly intense. "We had to do it several times," he said, "because we were both very weighed down. There was a respect and sadness that went beyond the acting."

The series also became a huge hit on social media. It especially found an audience among younger generations who might not have grown up with El Chavo or El Chapulín Colorado. Cruz believes platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) were key to its reach. "There are millions of views of clips from the series," he said. "That helped people aged 15 or 20 connect with Roberto and understand his legacy from a new viewpoint."

One of the biggest hurdles for the production team was ensuring the personal conflicts of the original cast didn’t overshadow Chespirito’s artistic and personal growth. Pablo Cruz explained that the writers and directors worked carefully to find that balance. "It was about showing his light, but also his shadows," Cruz shared. "And doing it with respect, even in the most talked-about moments."

Juan Lecanda added, "We knew we were touching on sensitive areas. But it was never out of morbid curiosity. Everything in the show was cross-checked and reviewed. Much of it was even told by the people involved themselves or their families."

Both actors agreed that taking part in Sin querer queriendo was a life-changing experience, both professionally and personally. "We didn’t leave the same way we came in," Lecanda noted. "And in this business, that doesn’t happen very often."

You can catch Chespirito: Sin querer queriendo every Thursday on HBO Max. The eighth episode is certainly one of the most powerful and insightful of the season.
