The football club P. Ferreira recently held a general meeting. Members gathered to discuss the team’s money problems. Yet, a brighter note emerged. A beloved former player received a special honor.
The discussion quickly turned to Portuguese international Diogo Jota. Fans already called the east stand of Estádio Capital do Móvel the ‘Diogo Jota stand.’ This is P. Ferreira’s home ground. Now, the club’s members have made it official. They voted by a majority to give the stand this name. It’s a tribute to a player who started his journey there.
Still, the club faces a tough financial situation. President Rui Abreu shared some worrying numbers. He told members that P. Ferreira’s debt is over 8 million euros. About 5 million euros belong to the club’s professional football section (SDUQ). The other 3 million euros is owed by the club itself.
This difficult financial picture has caused problems. Some players left the team last season. They did so without getting all of their wages. The club still owes them money for their work.
There might be some help on the way. A group of investors plans to join the club. Rui Abreu mentioned some familiar names. Armando Marques, a former director at V. Guimarães and U. Leiria, is part of the group. So is Jorge Ribeiro, a former left-back and the brother of famous player Maniche. The club president stated he is waiting for them. He expects a first payment of 1 million euros from this group. This money could offer a much-needed boost to the Beavers, as the fans call their team.
