Over 200 inmates escape Karachi prison during riot amidst earthquake Chaos

A massive prison break happened in Karachi, Pakistan. Over 200 prisoners escaped after a strong earthquake hit. The prisoners were let out of their cells because of the quake. Then they overpowered the guards, grabbed guns, and ran.

This all went down on Monday night at a prison in the Malir area. The prisoners broke the gates and made a run for it. Police and security forces chased them through the crowded streets.

One prisoner was killed and three guards were hurt in the chaos. The prisoners who escaped had committed minor crimes like drug use or theft.

The chief minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, said it was a serious mistake to let the prisoners out of their cells. He warned that those who don’t turn themselves in will face severe punishment.

A Reuters news team visited the prison on Tuesday and found destroyed electronics and a trashed visitors’ room. Relatives of the prisoners were waiting anxiously outside, worried about their loved ones. This is one of the biggest prison breaks in Pakistan in years.
