Osasuna’s Athletic drought continues since 2013

Athletic has not signed in Osasuna's first team since Kike Sola in 2013

Athletic is determined to sign Oroz, a 22-year-old Navarrese youth player, despite his termination clause of 28 million euros in his contract with Osasuna. The offer includes a contract for at least five seasons, but Athletic is still far from meeting Osasuna’s valuation, which is only a third of the clause. This would be the first time Athletic has signed a player from Osasuna’s first team since 2013.

The signing of Oroz is expected to be completed before the preseason begins. The player has been on Athletic’s radar since his cadet days, but previous attempts to sign him were unsuccessful. This time, however, the club’s technicians have given him a strong endorsement, and the “sign him” campaign has gained momentum.

Oroz has a contract with Osasuna until 2026 and is considered a player who could fetch the most expensive sale in the club’s history. His sale would surpass the 13 million euros Athletic received for Raúl García and the 6 million euros they received for Javi Martínez, who was sold to Athletic as a youth player.

Athletic has not signed a player from Osasuna’s first team in 11 years, although several players from their youth teams have joined Lezama. In the past, the club has come close to signing players from Osasuna, including Berenguer and Mikel Merino, but ultimately failed to do so.

In the recent elections for the presidency of Athletic, candidate Ricardo Barkala announced that he would make the signing of Moncayola effective, who had a clause of 22 million euros, if elected. However, the elections were won by Jon Uriarte, and it remains to be seen if Athletic will pursue this signing.
