The first victory of the year came for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA andn the Classica da Arrabida thanks to a great collective effort finished off by Orluis Aular on the same finish line. The Venezuelan repeated the success achieved the previous season in the same race, demonstrating his qualities in a field with a finish that stung upwards. In addition, Jon Barrenetxea finished in sixth place after an attack in the last kilometres.
The first part of the day was marked by a breakaway by three riders who set the first pulse on the peloton. The teams interested in the neutralization they began to organize themselves to begin filing the almost three minutes that the leading trio managed to accumulate. The work of the green team -among others- paid off seventy kilometers from the finish line, giving rise to a new scenario.
When the banner of the last ten was crossed, both Jon Barrenetxea and Giovanni Carboni (EKP) they launched an attack that put the peloton in check in search of victory. Their attempt did not get a prize, since a few meters from the finish line they were absorbed. It was Orluis Aular’s moment, who took advantage of his top speed to beat Alex Jaime (EKP) at the finish line.
Orluis Aular: “We are very happy to achieve this victory for the team here in Arrabida. It is a race that I am very good at, although the circuit this year was different. We came with a great team, we have done a great job from the beginning. When you work like this, the results come. The objective was to win to raise our spirits, it is a great motivation for the team. We want to dedicate the victory to Sergio, so that he recovers well and we can see him with us soon ”.
