Orioles leave the Yankees on the field with a home run by Anthony Santander

Anthony Santander hit a three-run homer drive in the ninth off Lucas Luetge, and the Baltimore Orioles avoided a four-game series sweep by beating the New York Yankees 9-6 on Thursday.

The Yankees suffered just their second loss in 11 games. They still have the best record in the majors, at 28-10.

They suffered their first loss in 19 games in which they have led by five runs or more this season.

New York was one out from being dropped in the ninth when DJ LeMahieu hit an RBI single off Puerto Rican closer Jorge Lopez to even the score at 6-6.

The Orioles responded. Austin Hays reached on an error by third baseman Josh Donaldson. With one out, Trey Mancini singled and Santander followed up with a shot through left field for seven homers this season.

The Dominican Félix Bautista (1-1) took the victory.

For the Yankees, the Venezuelans Gleyber Torres 4-0, Marwin González 4-1.

For the Orioles, the Mexican Ramón Urías 4-0. Venezuelans Santander 4-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Robinson Chirinos 4-1 with a run scored and two RBIs, Rougned Odor 2-1 with an RBI. Dominican Jorge Mateo 3-1 with a run scored and an RBI.
