The United Arab Emirates has announced the release of nearly 1,000 prisoners on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, keeping the tradition.
According to Khaleej Times, residents across the country are gearing up to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha this year. In such a situation, the President of the United Arab Emirates His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 988 prisoners.
It is common practice for the rulers of each of the UAE’s emirates to pardon prisoners during important Islamic occasions.
Prisoners released by a presidential pardon have the opportunity to rethink their futures and to contribute positively to their families and communities in order to lead successful social and professional lives.
Last year, Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued orders to release 505 prisoners on Eid al-Adha.
Generally, on the occasion of Eid, in Muslim countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, prisoners convicted of minor crimes are released on humanitarian grounds.
The aim of this initiative is to provide a chance for a new life to the prisoners so that the suffering of their relatives and loved ones can be eased.
