The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 2024 Oscars, where “Oppenheimer” received 13 nominations.
The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, tells the drama of the father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy.
The acclaimed production is competing for the best film and best director. In addition, Murphy will compete for the Best Actor category, while Robert Downey Jr. will try to win the Best Supporting Actor statuette.
“Barbie” is also one of the most nominated films and received eight nominations, but the protagonist Margot Robbie was left out of the fight for best actress.
However, her colleague America Ferrera surprised her by being nominated in the supporting category with a monologue about how difficult it is for women to meet society's expectations.
For his part, Ryan Gosling, the flesh-and-blood “Ken,” was among the candidates for the Best Supporting Actor award.
The film about the world's most famous doll filled cinemas in 2024 and brought in around $2.4 billion.
One of the big news was the nomination of the Spanish film “The Snow Society” in the Best International Film category.
This production set a trend for telling the odyssey experienced by a Uruguayan rugby team when the plane they were traveling on crashed in the Andes in 1972. The film was also positioned in the hair and makeup category.
