Operations begin to prevent the sale of counterfeit alcohol at Christmas

The National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Proconsumidor) and the Specialized Body for the Control of Fuels and Merchandise Trade (CECCOM) began preventive operations to prevent the sale of adulterated and counterfeit alcoholic beverages during the Christmas festivities.

The executive director of Proconsumidor, Eddy Alcántara, said that 22 provinces with their respective municipalities agreed to intervene “in places where the marketing focus of these lethal products for the health of the people who ingested them was located.”

The official stated that “in these Christmas festivities of Christmas Eve and New Year It is expected that not a single Dominican will be affected by the consumption of these counterfeit drinks, and therefore it is not part of the mortality statistics as a result of their ingestion”.

He also indicated that one of the successes that the government of Luis Abinader and the management he presides over at the head of Proconsumidor has had, has been the fight against counterfeit alcohol, a practice that has been going on for many years “and the previous authorities were not concerned with responsibly facing this scourge.”

They call the population
Proconsumidor and Ceccom called on the population to If you have any information about the sale of counterfeit alcohol in any business, contact those entities. “to immediately intervene in it and apply the full weight of the law.”

In addition, they recommended that citizens avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages whose origin is doubtful, “and not buy suspicious alcoholic beverages on the street, nor receive these types of products from unknown persons.”
