Only Congress MLA also joined Trinamool

Within three months, the Congress was hit in West Bengal. Byron Biswas, the only Congress MLA of the state, left the ‘Haat’ and joined the Trinamool’s ‘Ghasphule’. On Monday, he joined the Trinamool Congress by carrying the grass flower flag from the hands of the party’s All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Byron Biswas, the candidate of the Left and Congress alliance, defeated the Trinamool in the Sagardighi assembly constituency of Murshidabad district in the beginning of last March by 23 thousand votes. He left the party within three months.

Joining Trinamool, he said, ‘Couldn’t work in Congress, I was always in Trinamool. To participate in the development of the state, I left the Congress and joined the Trinamool for the development of my center.

Pointing out that the Congress did not contribute to his victory in the by-election, he said, ‘I tried to get a ticket from the grassroots. But because I didn’t get a ticket, I contested on a Congress ticket.’

On the other hand, Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Trinamool General Secretary and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said at the press conference, “Welcome to Byron Biswas in Trinamool. Hope Byron will continue to fight against BJP. We don’t believe in the game of breaking, we believe in the game of building.’

In the 2021 assembly elections, the Left and Congress did not get a single seat out of 294 seats. Later in the by-election, the Sagardighi seat was won by the Left-Congress supported candidate. He also joined Trinamool Congress.
