The summer period is one of the key moments for the tourism sector, one of the pillars of the Spanish economy. In fact, according to the last data offered by Exceltur, this sector will generate 12.3 of every 100 euros of the national economy. Said report also points out that there will be a growth in tourism, more foreign tourists and that the price of all services will be higher this 2023.
This upward trend in the sector will also be evident in eCommerce, which has experienced significant growth in the travel area since COVID, reaching pre-pandemic levels. According to data from theSummer Report 2023” made by webloyaltya leading company in generating additional revenue for eCommerce through its Retail Media solution, online sales in the travel category will grow 30% this summer. Likewise, the Hotels are the players in the sector that will sell the most through the web, reaching the 55% of total sales in this category, followed by flights (21%).
Spaniards spent on average through eCommerce €210 in hotels, €271 in flights, €150 in car rental, €247 in bus or train tickets in 2022. In general, the average ticket was €259.4, a figure that is expected to be quite similar this summer.
“Our forecasts indicate that the category of trips in Privileges in Shopping will exceed, this summer, one million euros in transactions carried out. And it is that, the online channel, provides the traveler with many added benefits. Our program, for example, helps to obtain refunds of at least 10%, which in the travel category, since these are large amounts, has a very positive impact on the family economy”, says Paula Rodríguez, Business Development Director of Webloyalty Spain.
August, the month with the highest online sales of travel and tourism activities
From webloyaltypoint out that purchases of travel and tourist activities last summer it was 55% higher than in 2021, and they expect these to grow an additional 35% this summer.
“Despite the indicators of recession and inflation, during the summer, the Spanish show a greater intention to spend. This year we have very good feelings and we anticipate that the results will be good during these dates, especially in August, the month in which the Spanish will make more purchases online, not only to be able to enjoy them during the final stretch of summer, but because it is about a month in which a large part of the population acquires new travel plans”, says Paula Rodríguez.
