One Russian general fired, another killed in attack

Russian President Vladimir Putin did not meet with Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin. Instead, Russian Army Major General Ivan Popov was fired after suggesting he had been killed. He said he was dismissed as commander after criticizing the military leadership. He described the failure of top military leaders as a ‘stab in the back’ of the Russian military, highlighting the disastrous situation on the battlefield in Ukraine.

A brief armed uprising by the mercenary Wagner Group on June 24 was Putin’s biggest challenge in decades.

Meanwhile, a senior Russian military general was killed in Ukraine. The name of the killed Russian general is Lieutenant General Oleg Sokov. He lost his life in a missile attack in the port city of Bardyansk in the Zaporizhia region of southeastern Ukraine. Several Russians reported this information on Thursday.

On the other hand, Ukraine has claimed to shoot down 20 Russian drones and two cruise missiles. These drones and missiles were attacked in the capital Kiev on Wednesday night. One person was killed and at least four others were injured in the attack.

“We successfully countered the attack,” Ukrainian air force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said on the country’s state-run television on Thursday. He claimed that the downed drones and missiles were made by Iran. In a statement posted on Telegram, the air force also said the attack was carried out by an Iranian ‘martyr’ drone in the Kiev region. All drones have been shot down. In addition, two Caliber missiles were fired at Kiev. They have also been demolished. News from BBC, AFP and Reuters.
