One of the iPhone’s iconic elements could disappear forever in 2024

Since the introduction of the first iPhone in 2007, the mute switch has become an iconic feature of our devices. However, Apple introduced this with the iPhone 15 Pro Action buttonthereby replacing this hardware with powerful software features.

A report now suggests this Apple will not limit the presence of the Action Button to Pro models, but rather plans to integrate it into the entire iPhone 16 family and the next iPhone SE 4.

According to MacRumors, Apple will add and improve the Action Button on all iPhone 16 models by replacing this mechanical part with a capacitive button. Codenamed Atlas, it works like Touch ID, where you press the button and provide haptic feedback rather than a physical click.

The publication also mentions new capture button planned for iPhone 16 Prowhich will also work with a force sensor, although its exact function is not yet known.

Apple has experimented with different sizes for the action button, including a larger version similar to the current volume buttons. In addition, Cupertino is expected to present a renewed design for the iPhone SE 4, abandoning the classic look of the iPhone 8 and adopting something similar to the iPhone 14, but with the Action Button.
