One person was killed and four seriously injured in a shooting at a church near Los Angeles.authorities said Sunday a day after a gunman killed 10 people at a New York state store.
"Four victims were seriously injured."the sheriff’s office said on Twitter. "One victim died at the scene." and another person was injured "mild"he added.
Authorities said they received an emergency call from the Geneva Presbyterian Church. at 01:26 pm (20:26 GMT) on Sunday.
"We arrested one person and recovered a weapon that may be involved." in the incident, the sheriff’s department said in a previous tweet.
The county fire service said its firefighters and paramedics were "on-site and cared for and transported multiple patients".
Images on social media appear to show emergency vehicles lined up outside a church.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said it was working with local authorities to monitor the situation.
"No one should be afraid to go to their place of worship. Our thoughts are with the victims"the office tweeted.
Democratic Congresswoman Katie Porter, who represents Orange County in Washington, called the shooting "Terrible and disturbing news, especially less than a day after a mass shooting in Buffalo."
According to the sheriff’s office, the church is located in Laguna Woodsabout 70 km southeast of Los Angeles.
