One dead and four missing after heavy rains in Tahiti

The first vehicle made it through but the second got stuck in the river. A man from the first vehicle then returned to help the five trapped people and the six were then swept away by the river. The man was found dead and the woman, who is not pregnant, was airlifted. The search was suspended for the night.

A Dauphin helicopter and fifteen gendarmes are deployed on Monday as well as a boat at the mouth of the river and the sea and members of the Polynesian Civil Protection Federation.
