On what basis is Belarus merging with Russia?

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Belarus has decided to merge with Russia to form a union state, a Kremlin spokesman said on Monday.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Belarus’s integration into Russia that the two countries’ integration was in the common interest.

According to Dmitry, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said yesterday that a very practical and realistic approach is needed for the integration of the two countries.

The leaders of the two countries said that the goals of the Union have been set which are ready for signing in practice and all the 28 Union programs have been coordinated in this regard.

In this regard, joint macroeconomic policy, integration of payment system, cooperation in information security, customs, tax, energy and other areas were agreed upon.
