Islamabad: The new variant of the corona virus, Omicron, has also started to engulf Pakistan. Pakistani health authorities have expressed concern about the increase in Omicron cases in major cities in the country. Officials have said that given the current situation, it is possible that during the month of February next year, Pakistan could face the fifth wave of Kovid-19. Pakistan’s Health Ministry said on Tuesday that community transmission of the Omicron variant has started in the country’s main cities, Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

‘The first case was registered in Karachi on December 13’

Let us tell you that a total of 75 cases of Omicron, a new variant of the corona virus, have been reported in Pakistan so far. Health department officials said Tuesday that people were called on to get vaccinated against Covid. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) said the highest number of 33 cases of the Omicron variant was reported in Karachi, where the first such case was reported on December 13. Authorities say most Omicron cases are asymptomatic, suggesting that the variant may have quietly spread across major cities in Pakistan.

’75 cases of Omicron in Pakistan as of December 27 ‘
The NIH said in a statement that as of December 27, a total of 75 cases of the Omicron variant were detected in Pakistan, including 33 in Karachi, 17 in Islamabad and 13 in Lahore, while 12 cases were related to international travel. Officials have expressed concern that cases could increase rapidly and the country could face a fifth wave in February. Meanwhile, 291 new cases of corona virus infection were reported in Pakistan during the past 24 hours, bringing 12,94,031 cases of infection to the country so far. So far, 28,912 Kovid-19 patients have died in the country.
