Geneva, Switzerland): The whole world is concerned about the new variant of the corona virus infection, Omicron. After being found for the first time in South Africa, Omicron has now spread to at least 23 countries around the world. Not only this, it is feared that it will spread to more countries. In this context, the president of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has given information.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “Omicron variants have attracted global attention. At least 23 countries in five of the six WHO regions have reported cases of Omicron and we expect this number to increase.”

Corona cases increased in Africa, the Western Pacific and Europe

The WHO has said that coronavirus cases have risen over the past week in Africa, the Western Pacific and regions of Europe. However, he said there has been a 10 percent reduction in deaths worldwide due to Kovid-19.

The United Nations Health Agency has said in its weekly report that cases in Africa have increased by 93 percent. However, he cautions against overinterpreting these figures, largely due to the “batch reporting” of antigen testing from South Africa.

The organization said cases of this form have been found in only a few countries, but it has spread to four of the six World Health Organization regions. As of Sunday, a total of more than 28 million cases of Kovid-19 have been confirmed and more than 52 million people have lost their lives.
