According to police sources, the incident began when Kerley approached a police group that was intervening in a situation related to his parked vehicle.

As Kerley interacted with the police, he became increasingly aggressive and failed to comply with their instructions. The situation escalated, and Kerley allegedly assumed a ‘fighting position.’ In response, the officers called for backup and used a taser to subdue him before handcuffing him.
