The coaching carousel keeps spinning, and the latest news brings a fresh change to the Greek football scene. Rui Vitória is no longer the head coach of Panathinaikos. The Greek club shared this decision on their social media channels Monday, extending a brief but polite farewell. They simply stated, “Thank you, Rui. Wishing you the best in your next chapter.”
This move follows a seriously disappointing start to the season. The team only managed to collect one point out of a possible six. This poor run included a surprising draw just this past Sunday against Kifisia, a club newly promoted to the top league. That result seems to have been the final straw.
Vitória first took charge of Panathinaikos in October 2024. During his time, he oversaw 43 matches. His record included 24 victories, 10 draws, and 10 defeats. While those numbers show some success, football is often a “what have you done lately?” kind of business. When recent results don’t meet expectations, even a decent overall record can’t save a coach.
