Odriozola returns to Real Sociedad

Real Madrid and Real Sociedad on Friday agreed on the transfer of Spanish right-back Álvaro Odriozola, who is returning to the Basque side five seasons after joining the Whites.

A period in which he has only played 49 games and has been loaned out twice: Six months at Bayern Munich, from January to August 2020, and one season, 2021-2022, at Fiorentina.

He then returned to Real Madrid where he hardly had a leading role last season, playing just 92 minutes over six games.

With one season left on his contract and Italy coach Carlo Ancelotti without him, Odriozola is ending his Real Madrid spell to return to a Real Sociedad where he trained and became an absolute national player with Spain.

“Real Sociedad and Real Madrid have reached an agreement on the transfer of Álvaro Odriozola to the Txuri Urdin club. La Real have also struck an agreement with the San Sebastian player, keeping him at the company until the end of the 2028/29 seasonsaid the Basque club on its website.

“Txuri urdin from the heart, Álvaro returns hungry for competition, with a desire to contribute to this exciting season and repeat those rides on the wing that made him a full international. Ongi etxera etxera, Álvaro,” he continues.

Real Madrid, in turn, thanked him in their statement for his “exemplary professionalism and conduct” and reviewed his record: 2 Club World Cups, 1 European Super Cup, 1 Liga, 1 Copa del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.
