Ocon and Gasly respond to Alpine boss’s ultimatum: total crisis

A difficult start for the French team in Formula 1 after not obtaining the expected results between the first races

The team Alpine is in a difficult situation after the disappointing start to the season in Formula 1, and both Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly have had to respond to the ultimatum issued by the CEO of Alpine, Laurent Rossi. The tension has become palpable after the Miami Grand Prix, where the French team managed to score points, but is still far from its goals.

Last year, the Enstone-based team managed to finish fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. The hope was that Alpine could remain the best team outside of the top 3 of Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. However, the results have not been as expected in recent races.

The situation in Miami and the consequences

At the moment, Alpine is in sixth position in the Constructors’ Championship, behind McLaren. The disappointment in the team began to show from pre-season testing, when it was overtaken by Aston Martin and showed no sign of challenging the top three. While the double points win in Miami was a breather for the team, CEO Laurent Rossi made it clear there will be consequences if things don’t improve soon.

Given the rumors about Rossi’s malaise, Esteban Ocon was focused on his work: “I am focusing on my career. My job is to perform on the track and get the most out of the car.” For his part, Pierre Gasly, Alpine’s new addition for this season, confirmed that the team is in constant conversations with the CEO of Alpine and with the CEO of Renault, Luca de Meo. There is a feeling of disappointment and frustration within the team.

Communication and the search for improvements

Gasly stated the following about the conversations with Rossi and De Meo: “It is a constant dialogue with Laurent, Luca and everyone in the team. I think that we are all disappointed with the start in the first four races, but we couldn’t take advantage of all the opportunities we had and that’s why I think today (in Miami) it’s good to score points with both cars”.

The French rider believes that Alpine is moving in the right direction, since the team added six points in Miami. However, the ambition is to achieve more and compete with Mercedes, Ferrari and the other teams at the front. The Alpine team must work hard to reverse the situation and improve their results. There is no doubt that both Ocon and Gasly are talented drivers capable of good results, but they need a competitive car and a solid team behind them.
