After much talk on the subject, here Meta puts an end to the rumors and announces the date on which it will reveal its Virtual Reality headset.

Meta will reveal its VR headset in October

In an interview on Joe Rogan’s Experience podcast (available on Spotify), Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Meta’s VR headset will be officially unveiled sometime in October, possibly at the Meta Connect conference.

Despite not revealing the name of the device, the Meta CEO has revealed some of its features that suggest the device is the same as Project Cambria. According to Zuckerberg, the headset will be equipped with eye and face tracking capabilities, enabling “eye contact in Virtual Reality.”

In practice, the Meta headset will track the user’s face and reproduce their facial expressions in real time. In other words, if the user smiles or frowns, for example, her avatar will too.

Zuckerberg also explained that the new device could improve non-verbal communication and give the user the feeling that, during a video call, they are effectively with their interlocutor. “For me, Virtual Reality manages to convince the brain that we are face to face with our interlocutor,” he adds.

Unfortunately, secrecy is the lifeblood of business, and Mark Zuckerberg didn’t reveal any more details. But through October, the new Meta team promises to get “a lot of ink flowing” in the Web world.

However, other rumors related to this headset have advanced since the equipment can reach the market at a cost of 799 dollars, that is, approximately 800 euros. If this information is confirmed, Meta will have a much more affordable device than Apple, since the headphones that arrive from Cupertino can cost more than 1,500 euros.

Remember that Facebook changed its name to Meta to reinforce the company’s new concept and strategy focused on the metaverse universe.
