NYY: Tremendous week

The New York Yankees have the best record in the major leagues, 39-15, their best mark at the start of a season since 1995 for that number of games. They have gotten there with an extraordinary week.

Matt Carpenter, newcomer, has 4 homers in ten days, Aaron Judge has not stopped and adds 21 in the young campaign, and Anthony Rizzo has woken up hitting long balls. Giancarlo Stanton returned to action, but that’s the least of it. Even the “dead” Joey Gallo, Mr. Punch, hit a home run yesterday, in a 5-4 win over Detroit.

This Sunday they completed the sweep against the Tigers, the sixth victory in a row since they had done the same before with the Angels. Note the following details from Tuesday to Sunday.

On Tuesday the 31st they beat the Angels 9-1 with lefty Jordan Montgomery on the mound throwing 7 innings of 4 hits, 1 run.

On the night, Jamesson Taillon pitched 8 innings and was throwing a perfect game, leaving with one run and only two hits. He was the 2-for-1 winner and is now 6-1 and 2.30.

On Friday, Gerrit Cole hosted Detroit and entered the 7th. with a perfect game as he retired the first 21. In total he pitched 7 innings of 2 hits, 9 strikeouts, they won 13 for 0 and Cole is 5-1 and 2.78.

And yesterday they beat Detroit 5 for 4, the decisive being a sacrifice lob by Josh Donaldson in the tenth. Michael King threw the tenth striking out all three.

The Yankees have won 8 of 10 and have a 7 1/2 lead over Toronto and 8 over Tampa, their closest rivals. Boston stays away at 12 1/2.

It has been a historic start for them, pitching is healthy and efficient, and hitting assumes its role in every way.

A LITTLE MORE: Miguel Andújar has publicly said that he wants a change from the Yankees and it is his right. What remains to be seen is whether the club will exit the services of Joey Gallo, Señor Ponche, and leave Andujar on the team as an infield and outfield utility man. Andújar has reiterated that there is injustice with him, but baseball is a business and sometimes it harms his players. The Yankees played at 11:35 yesterday in a new formality. A new company, called Peacock, has gone into business for MLB and will be broadcasting on Sundays at that time from different parks. That is to draw the attention of the European sports community. He fired his 7th. home run, in Minnesota’s 8-6 victory over Toronto. Minnesota is 32-24, Toronto is 31-22. Santiago Espinal, Toronto’s second baseman, went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and it’s his fourth home run of the year. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 3-1, his average is .253. The Los Angeles Angels have 11 losses in a row, they’ve completely dropped, which is unbelievable. That’s the team of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
