Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicts artificial intelligence will ultimately become an invisible, ubiquitous global utility, a vision that contrasts with public anxieties about the technology’s rapid advancement and potential risks.
Huang stated during an interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast that the race for artificial intelligence will not have a single victor or a definitive end. He drew parallels between current AI dynamics and historical technological rivalries that reshaped global geopolitics.
He noted that AI systems have advanced approximately 100 times in capability over the past two years. This rapid acceleration has fueled public concerns regarding autonomous weapons and technologies operating without human ethical oversight.
However, Huang emphasized that a significant portion of current development efforts focuses on making AI systems more secure and functional. This includes improving reliability, reducing errors, and enhancing utility in everyday applications.
Such advancements are critical, Huang explained, because they not only improve the technology but also positively influence public perception and the potential for effective regulation. He likened AI’s continuous progress to the Manhattan Project, but stressed that this new era lacks a clear finish line for its development.
Responding to host Joe Rogan’s questions about potential risks like machine dependence and quantum computing threats, Huang defended the involvement of the U.S. military in AI development. He argued that national defense participation helps prevent powerful AI tools from falling into uncontrolled hands, ensuring institutional oversight.
