Nuno Farelo is leaving Portugal again, this time to coach Minaur Baia Mare in Romania. The 35-year-old manager signed a two-year deal with the club, which finished fourth last season. Farelo’s departure comes a year after he returned to Portugal to take charge of FC Porto’s B team and under-20 squad.
A Familiar Destination
Farelo has worked in Romania before. Between 2017 and 2019, he was assistant coach to Paulo Jorge Pereira at CMS Bucareste. Interestingly, Pereira has just been announced as the new coach at Dinamo Bucareste, the league champions. So, the two Portuguese coaches will be reunited in Romania.
A Proven Track Record
Farelo has a successful track record in Portugal. He led FC Porto’s B team to the final phase of the Honour Division for the first time and guided the under-20 squad to the national title. Before returning to Portugal, Farelo worked in Spain, Belarus, and the Faroe Islands, gaining valuable experience.
- Led FC Porto’s B team to the Honour Division finals
- Won the national title with FC Porto’s under-20 squad
- Previous experience in Spain, Belarus, and the Faroe Islands
Farelo’s new challenge in Romania will test his skills in a new environment. Minaur Baia Mare is looking to improve on its fourth-place finish last season.
