Núñez, Guzmán, Santana, Martínez and Cabral win

The Central American and Caribbean bronze medalist at the youth level, Novoanny Núñez Francisco, Narjoni Guzmán, Emely Santana, Alainy Pérez Martínez and Jessica Cabral won by RSC decision the first matches of the XVlll National Women’s Boxing Championship INDOTEL Cup held at the Coliseum Pepe Mallén of San Pedro de Macoris.

The women’s boxing party organized by the Dominican Federation of Amateur Boxing (fedoboxa), is dedicated to the Minister of Women, Mayra Jiménez and brings together more than 128 athletes from 25 provinces.

Núñez Francisco (Santiago) had Wilnnis Montilla (National District) in the 50 kg division. Guzmán (San Cristóbal) was the one who opened the card with a resounding victory over Fernanda Jiménez (Santo Domingo Province) in the 50 kg.

In just 19 seconds, the representative from La Romana, Emely santana, defeated Graisi Vásquez (Mao) in the 54 kg. Pérez Martínez (Monte Plata) beat Franchesca del Ríos (Samaná) on the fast track in the 57 kg. Cabral (Cotui) defeated RSCH Rubis Mercedes (Puerto Plata) in the 60 kg.

Ceremony

The opening ceremony began with the entrance of the delegations, then the National Anthem and continued with the words of welcome from the president of the Boxing Association of San Pedro de Macorís, Ramón Leonardo.

In his speech, Leonardo highlighted the boom that boxing has had in the province and the promising future that can be expected from its athletes. The provincial director of Sports, Miguel Jiménez, highlighted the support that the Luis Abinader government has been offering to sports through the minister of that portfolio, engineer Francisco Camacho.

He highlighted the number of sports facilities that Minister Camacho has prepared and in which large events can be held, such as the national women’s boxing championship here in San Pedro de Macorís.

Minister Mayra Jiménez received a plaque of recognition from Fedoboxa and the local boxing association, which she thanked in a special way because it takes place in a sporting event where the protagonists are women.

She stressed that women continue to open doors and close gaps, which ensures a great future for the country.

Jiménez spoke in favor of continuing to promote sports activities, because in this way we help youth to travel through the best paths and, with it, thank the nation.

The vice president of the Federation, engineer Arturo Morales, expressed his satisfaction with the level that the boxers have presented in the three categories.

“This tournament shows the work that our organization has been doing to continue strengthening boxing at the national level,” he said.

The sports immortal, Morales, spoke on behalf of the president of Fedoboxa, Mr. Rubén García, who is in Turkey with the Dominican women’s boxing delegation that sees action in the elite world championship.

Morales thanked INDOTEL, the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Women and the City Council of San Pedro de Macorís for supporting the fair and contributing to the boom in boxing.

After the oath of judges and athletes, there was an artistic presentation by Los Guloyas.

Minister Jiménez rang the bell that left the championship open.

The championship continues this Saturday with two cards, the first at 3:00 pm and the second at 7: pm.
