A new player has clearly stepped onto the field and is making waves. The NOW channel just hit its biggest numbers ever. It scored a daily share of 2.2% this past Thursday, setting a new record for viewership. This means over 46,000 people were tuning in every minute.
This victory came on a day when the channel covered a major national event, the State of the Nation debate. But NOW didn’t just win with its main coverage. Some of its regular shows also outplayed the competition. ‘Mercado NOW’ and ‘Record na hora’ took the lead in their time slots among other news channels. Even the midnight news saw a clear winner. Major-General Isidro Morais Pereira, with his weekly geopolitical insights, consistently beat CNN Portugal during his segment.
This strong performance isn’t a one-off. The NOW channel finished June on a record-breaking streak across all its targets. And it seems July is continuing that upward trend. Since its launch, the channel has seen explosive growth, increasing its audience by a massive 209.6%. Meanwhile, its rivals, including CNN, SIC Notícias, and RTP-3, have been losing ground.
In June, NOW held an average share of 1.6%. That was a first for the channel, reaching such a high point. Early signs suggest July will surpass even that impressive mark. NOW is available to viewers on channel 9 across MEO, NOS, and Vodafone. It brings together content from well-known brands like Record, Negócios, Sábado, and Máxima, all under one roof. All these viewing figures come directly from GFK, the official scorekeeper in the game of audience ratings.
