Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, top seeds at Wimbledon

This time, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal were on opposite sides of the draw.

Djokovic will be the top seed and Nadal second in the men’s bracket at Wimbledon in the absence of Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. The grass-court Grand Slam championship announced its seeding on Tuesday.

Medvedev, number one in the world, will not be able to play due to the veto that the All England Club imposed against players from Russia and Belarus in the 2022 edition after the invasion of Ukraine. Medvedev is Russian.

Zverev, second in the ranking, was ruled out due to an injury he suffered at the French Open.

This allowed Djokovic and Nadal to become the two main seeds, so they will not be able to meet until the final.

Not so at Roland Garros last month, when Nadal defeated Djokovic in the quarterfinals en route to his 22nd Grand Slam title — a record number.

The women’s draw will have a champion of 23 majors. Serena Williams returns to the competition, but she was not among the top seeds.

The draw will take place on Friday and the tournament will start on Monday.

Since 2021, seeding in both the men’s and women’s branches has been based on the rankings.

Williams hasn’t played since she retired in the first round at Wimbledon last year. He received an invite to the singles draw at the All England Club and could meet anyone in the first round.

The Polish Iga Swiatek, first in the ranking, will be the top seed at Wimbledon.
